Electrical Engineer

From concept design to delivering a product to market, you’ll be key part of our engineering team and helping us revolutionize the access people have to healthcare services.

The Electrical Engineer (EE) is an innovative engineer who plays a critical role in the development of new telemedicine and IoT technology that delivers on Avizia’s mission to revolutionize healthcare.  The EE needs to have a solid background in electronic system design to define engineering solutions including mechanical, electrical, and software components. 

The Electrical Engineer has the ability to work autonomously and provide leadership for other engineers on the team.  They will go deep on board layout constraints and requirements, oversee physical engineering design layout, and work cross-functionally on system integration.  The EE works with mechanical design, operations, and product management to push a product all the way to production and support current products in the portfolio.

The position will be located at Avizia’s headquarters in Reston, VA (Washington DC area) and report to Avizia’s Director of Hardware Engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering development of several next generation telemedicine IoT products working as a key member of a cross-functional team
  • Work with Product Management to define and evaluate the engineering solution options to meet each products’ requirements
  • Evaluate the engineering trade space and recommend engineering solution options based on business (e.g., feature set, costs) and engineering (e.g., feasibility, timeline) constraints
  • Design, develop, and test electronics for embedded telemedicine products from system architecture (e.g., system integration block diagrams, power consumption) to subcomponents (e.g., schematic designs, PCB layouts, component selection)
  • Manage multiple partner relationships with OEM engineering teams
  • Support quality, compliance, and customer service teams with engineering needs (e.g., debugging, overseeing RF emissions testing)
  • Lead projects autonomously and provide leadership for other engineers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Required:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in the design and development of embedded electronics (high speed digital, analog, wireless, etc)
  • PCB-level design engineering of system boards, including CPU/chipset, memory, high-speed communication interfaces, and audio amplifiers
  • Familiarity with standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.) and testing procedures
  • Strong multi-tasking skills

Preferred:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience and solid understanding of the system development process including symbol creation, schematics, and board design and development
  • Familiarity with CPU internal architecture and embedded firmware development
  • Familiarity with low-power design, battery charging, and/or power supply
  • Familiarity with embedded wireless standards
  • Experience with full product development cycle starting with concept and design and ending with production
  • Experience working with OEM and ODM partners
  • Experience with industry standard CAD tools
  • Experience with hardware or software video codecs
  • Experience with FDA, FCC, and ISO regulations

Additional Information

The position is located indoors in an office environment in our Reston, VA office.  The incumbent must be able to communicate with other individuals in person, over video, via phone, and through email.  The incumbent may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and the job requires the incumbent to use reasoning and judgment to address and solve business problems.  The incumbent must demonstrate manual dexterity in order to use common office equipment. Applicant may be required to lift up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis.  This position requires less than 20% travel.
